Marissa Joy Selvig is running for Wyoming’s lone seat in the U.S. House of Representatives. She and her husband Ryan, with their four children (Liv, Jonas, Finn, and Elin) live in Riverton, located in the largest county in the state. She has held elected office in the past, being on the town council for the Town of Pavillion (pop. 235) and then being appointed to the mayoral position in 2019. She currently sits as the chair of the EDGE committee for the city of Riverton; a committee to help facilitate and recommend projects falling under the category of Economic Development for the distribution of monies collected from the new half-cent tax passed by the people of the county.
Marissa is 38 years old and holds a Bachelor of Science in Speech Communication – Theatre Arts from the University of Wisconsin-River Falls. She has been a mostly stay-at-home mom to her kids, but has worked all these years part time as a singer, pianist, harpist, private music teacher, music director the theatrical productions at Central Wyoming College, and has a small farmers market kombucha brewing business. She is the worship director/leader at Foundations for Nations Church, serving the amazing Northern Arapaho and Eastern Shoshone peoples on the Wind River Indian Reservation, as well as many citizens from the greater Fremont County area.
Marissa has had a call from the Lord to run for this office and is looking forward to all He has in store. God isn’t done with America yet, and has a good plan for our great nation. Marissa has an intense desire to bring back practical budgeting to government, restore the proper place of communication, honesty and transparency in governance, to bring back virtuous principles into every part of the culture there, and to do it all with the intense love and peace of Jesus in all that she does. “In today’s toxic culture, we must be fearless truth-tellers who love others well. There will be a new birth of freedom and righteousness in the land and I am looking forward to being used as a part that plan. I am willing to lay down my normal life in service to the great people of Wyoming and these great United States of America. Just call me the happy warrior!”
