[WARNING: The following report contains descriptive information about the abortion procedure, which some readers may find disturbing.]

The overturning of the Roe v Wade decision this past summer was a time of great rejoicing amongst pro-life advocates. But a recent National Public Radio (NPR) broadcast featuring the audio recording of an abortion performed in Michigan on a mother who was 11 weeks pregnant shows that we still have much work to do in affecting change in the hearts of pro-abortion advocates.

In the clip, the woman can be heard moaning and crying, juxtaposed against the terrible noises of the machinery that is suctioning away the tiny life inside of her, a life which scripture tells us was designed by God with purpose and destiny (Psalm 139:13-16).

In an statement from the Charlotte Lozier Institute, Dr. Tara Sander Lee, Ph.D. explained that the baby, who by 11 weeks had fingers and toes, would have already “displayed a preference for using their right or left hand when sucking his thumb, and had heart activity resembling that of a newborn. By 11 weeks, the baby already had 4,000 distinct anatomical parts, or 90% of the named body parts found in an adult.”

“Science confirms that an unborn baby’s heart is beating rhythmically by 6 weeks. By 11 weeks, the age of the baby aborted in the NPR broadcast, the baby had a heart rate of 168 beats per minute and the heart had already beat over 9 million times,” said Lee.

For years, abortion advocates have touted science as being on their side. Ironically, science is now their biggest obstacle as people learn the facts. On their website, “Planned Parenthood describes the procedure as using ‘gentle suction to remove the pregnancy from your uterus.’”

But former abortionist Dr. Anthony Levantino has stated that the device used “has up to 10 to 20 times the suction power of a household vacuum.” Even with IV medication for pain and anxiety, the suction machine is anything but gentle, “as it rips out the adherent placenta and unborn child.” It is an act of utter barbarity.

As demonstrated in the NPR broadcast, progressives ignore (or obscure) these facts in their quest to normalize abortion. NPR reporter Kate Wells did a voiceover while the abortion was occurring, all the time speaking as though the atrocity taking place was no more uncomfortable than a tooth extraction.

Although the recent mid-term elections yield muddled results on a national level, one thing is certainly clear. The battle for the right to life of innocent unborn children in this nation is far from over. Scripture not only tells us that the Lord abhors the shedding of innocent blood (Prov. 6:17), but that it is sinful to him that “knoweth to do good, and doeth it not” (James 4:17). Therefore, Bible-believing Christians must continue to stand against the perverse and violent abortion industry. The next generation of lawyers, pastors, inventors, teachers, artists, and writers, each with their God-given destinies, are depending on us.
